About Us
Rhapta Jamii is a community that came together in early 2017, as a family rediscovering who they are &
where their place should be in a modern world that has failed all Africans, as well as coming up with
solutions to reignite the African Renaissance.
Consciously, or subconsciously, we are inspired by a lot around us, from self-sustaining communities, like
the Royal Bafokeng Nation, as well as many others that have laid the blueprint for our prosperity.
We are inspired by those who came before us, the ancient Africans, the forgotten peoples of Ifran. The
Kabaka’s, Qore’s, Nnamasole, Nesutyu, abáhwebi, mabaharia, balepi and awon oluko.
Meaning Behind "Rhapta Jamii"
Rhapta (grk: Rápta) is a lost Ancient African city off the coast of Southeast Africa (now Tanzania & Moçambique), first described in the
1st century CE. The ancient Periplus of the Erythraean Sea described Rhapta as "the last marketplace of Azania".
Ptolemy's Geography, described Rhapta as Africa's first metropolis and one of the wealthiest cities of its time. Its supposed
rediscovery in 2013, is symbolic as we see ourselves mirroring this very journey, and coming of age in discovering facts on African history
& humankinds origins. To our community, Rhapta represents the Lost City of Atlantis as well as Africa's lost history & culture.
Jamii is the kiSwahili word for community/society. We are more than just an organization with like minds coming together for
a common goal, but a family of Africans making up the sum of all parts in this new Renaissance.
